APC Accuses Fubara of Plotting Against Rivers Assembly

The Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has accused Governor Siminalayi of plotting to procure court injunctions to to Hinder State House of Assembly Activities.

During a press briefing at his Port Harcourt office today, Mr. Okocha leveled this accusation against the governor, casting doubt on the sincerity of the governor’s assertion that he signed the Presidential Peace Pact out of respect for President Tinubu.

Mr Okocha said, “reading through the 8-point deal will it be true to say that 8 and 6 have been implemented? What are they? That you represent the budget to the legitimate Assembly as led by Martin Amaewhule. And 8 which of course directed the governor to conduct elections and never recognize any other nomenclature in the local governments.

“The governor’s blatant refusal to conduct local government elections goes to affect the extant laws of Rivers State and is a deliberate attempt to disrespect Mr President.”

It’s apparent that the political battle in the oil rich state is showing no signs of abating any time soon.

Just yesterday, Mr. Fubara emphatically warned his political opponents not to mistake his composed demeanor and acceptance of the Presidential Peace deal as a sign of weakness, cautioning that they would be surprised if they did so.

Governor Fubara disclosed that he had been bombarded with various media comments regarding the implementation of the peace initiative but had opted for silence out of maturity and wisdom.

Clarifying the situation, he highlighted that when President Bola Tinubu intervened in the state’s political crisis on October 30, 2023, the accepted agreement was a political resolution.

Governor Fubara emphasized that he had begun executing the agreement out of respect for President Tinubu. However, he cautioned that some political figures seem to have misinterpreted his humility and adherence as a display of weakness.
