APC Government’s N60,000 Minimum Wage Is Insult to Organised Labour, Don’t Relax — AAC

The African Action Congress (AAC) has described the N60,000 and one kobo offered by the Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration as an insult on workers.

The party in a statement on Tuesday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Femi Adeyeye, asserted that instead of spending lavishly and earning maximum wages on the back of the real creators of wealth, the current administration should be forced to rechannel the resources of the people to cater to the needs of the people.

AAC explained that if critical questions were not raised by the people, the increased wage would end in the pockets of the APC billionaire profiteers who had been placed strategically at the centre of the economy to siphon them.

The group urged the leadership of the trade unions not to wither, but extend the struggle beyond just strike action to street protests that would raise fundamental economic questions and demands such as the renationalization of critical sectors of the economy.

The statement partly reads, “The African Action Congress (AAC) commends workers and the organised labour for the unflinching solidarity and unity of purpose at this crucial time. There’s no doubt that the strike action against the slave wage offered by the Tinubu regime was very successful yesterday.

“We wish to state emphatically that as a party that respects the dignity in labour, the N60,000 and one kobo offered by the APC regime is an insult on workers. We reject it and ask that instead of spending lavishly and earning maximum wages on the back of the real creators of wealth, the greedy regime must be forced to re-channel the resources of the people to cater for the needs of the people.

“We urge the leadership of the trade unions not to wither at this point but to extend the struggle beyond just strike action to street protests that will raise fundamental economic questions and demands such as the renationalisation of critical sectors of the economy including Oil, Power etc, revaluation of the Naira, funding of social services such as education and health, amongst others.

“It is important that we all are not oblivious of the mercenaries deployed by the ruling class to continue to pauperise us. If critical questions are not raised by the people, the increased wage will end in the pockets of the billionaire profiteers who have been placed strategically at the centre of our economy to siphon them”. #APC
