Nigerian netizens has commended Nigeria’s opposition parties for showing restraint and patriotism under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In his post on X, Abdulbaasit (@abdlbaasit_) noted that despite widespread economic challenges and policy criticisms, the opposition has avoided excessive propaganda, choosing instead to prioritize national interest.

Abdulbaasit contrasted this attitude with that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, accusing the ruling party of exploiting every national issue for political gain.
He wrote: “Opposition has been really kind to Tinubu, they’ve all chosen to put the country first. APC didn’t extend this much grace to GEJ, they played politics and ran propaganda with everything you could think of. Evil party.”
His comment drew responses from other users who shared similar sentiments about the conduct of the APC during the Jonathan years.
Echoing Abdulbaasit’s position, @gh0st_CFC criticized the ruling party for prioritizing power over peace, alleging that the APC once placed its political interests above national stability.
He accused the party of putting selfish ambition ahead of Nigeria’s collective unity and welfare, suggesting that their actions during the Jonathan era deepened divisions in the country.
“ They put their selfish interest ahead of our collective unity and peace. They were ready to let Nigeria burn if they didn’t get their way. But see now they have the power, nothing is working, all they do right is propaganda and PR up and down,” he wrote.
Similarly, @AguiyiOmambala recalled how the APC allegedly used coordinated campaigns to discredit Jonathan’s government, saying the party exploited sensitive national issues to gain political advantage.
“Honestly, the opposition has been really kind to this government of APC. What did they not deploy to remove GEJ? They rode on the kidnapped Chibok girls, lobbied foreign propagandists, and used Nigerian influencers to attack the government of GEJ,” he stated.
These reactions highlight a growing perception among Nigerians that the current opposition has exercised greater restraint than the APC did while in opposition, even amid worsening economic conditions.
Abdulbaasit’s post and the ensuing discussion reflect a broader debate on political maturity, propaganda, and the evolving standards of accountability in Nigeria’s democracy.
