Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate’s victory in the Edo State governorship election signifies the confidence Nigerians have in Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, and the Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, who received 18,737 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, declared Okpebholo the winner after the APC candidate won 11 local government areas, while Ighodalo won 7, leaving Akpata with none.
Speaking after the announcement, Senate President Godswill Akpabio claimed that the victory was a reflection of the confidence Nigerians have in Bola Tinubu.
“I strongly believe that the election in Edo, though tense at the beginning, is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians continue to express in Tinubu,” Akpabio told the press on Sunday.
