The Appeal Court in Lagos State is set to deliver its judgment today on the governorship election petition brought forth by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.

The petition targets Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This follows a swift timeline, with only two weeks passing since the parties presented their arguments and finalized their written addresses.

Cole’s plea to the court is to compel INEC to declare him the rightful winner of the March governorship election in Rivers.

His claim centers on allegations that Fubara continued to sign documents as the Accountant-General of the State even after being nominated as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

Among Cole’s contentions are accusations of irregularities during the election. As the legal battle reaches its climax, stakeholders eagerly await the court’s decision on this crucial case.
