The Court of Appeal in Lagos is scheduled to deliver its verdict on Wednesday, November 15, regarding the appeal challenging the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The appeal was filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, and his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran.
A notice issued by the court to all concerned parties has confirmed that the judgement will be announced at 3 p.m.
Earlier, the Lagos Governorship Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the case brought forward by the Labour Party candidate, Rhodes-Vivour, challenging the victory of Sanwo-Olu in the 2023 governorship election.
The Court affirmed Sanwo-Olu as the legitimately elected governor, citing the lack of merit in Rhodes-Vivour’s petition.
Rhodes-Vivour had approached the tribunal, seeking the nullification of Sanwo-Olu’s electoral victory on the grounds of alleged non-qualification and corrupt practices. Additionally, he accused the governor of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
As the clock ticks down to the crucial announcement, stakeholders and the public eagerly await the outcome of this significant legal battle that could impact the political landscape in Lagos. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
