The Appeal Court in Lagos State has upheld Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected governor of Rivers State.
The court dismissed the petition filed by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, against Governor Fubara and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This decision solidifies the earlier verdict of the Tribunal, which had, in October, affirmed Fubara’s electoral victory.
The court emphasized that the APC, which sponsored Tonye-Cole, had withdrawn the petition against Governor Fubara’s triumph.

Tonye-Cole, who personally appeared in court, had sought a declaration as the rightful winner of the election, citing irregularities and misconduct in the electoral process as the basis for his petition.
However, the Appeal Court’s ruling has upheld Governor Fubara’s mandate as the legitimately elected governor of Rivers State.
