“Around 170 ‘Killed’ in Three Burkina Faso Villages,” Says Public Prosecutor

A Public Prosecutor has reported that approximately 170 individuals were killed in attacks on three villages in northern Burkina Faso.

These attacks occurred in the villages of Komsilga, Nodin, and Soroe in Yatenga province on February 25.

Dozens of women and young children were reportedly among the victims of the attacks.

It was reported that the attacks were likely orchestrated by armed groups attempting to demonstrate their continued influence in the country, especially after facing pressure from the military, which has launched regular air strikes against them.

The country’s army chief has cautioned soldiers to remain vigilant, citing a heightened risk of suicide attacks by militants.

Additionally, he expressed concerns about potential large-scale attacks targeting security forces in urban areas.

Burkina Faso’s territory has been under the control of armed groups, which have plagued the country for years.

Humanitarian organizations describe Burkina Faso as one of the most neglected crises globally, as persistent insecurity over the years has displaced over two million people.
