Arsenal Defeat Wolves to go Top of Premier League

Arsenal overcame the sting of their Champions League disappointment by reclaiming the top spot in the Premier League with a 2-0 triumph against Wolves on Saturday.

Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard found the net late in each half, propelling the Gunners one point ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

After enduring a three-game winless streak, including a recent Premier League defeat to Aston Villa and a Champions League quarter-final exit against Bayern Munich, Mikel Arteta’s side rebounded strongly to keep pace with reigning champions City, who earlier secured an FA Cup final berth with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Arteta made minimal changes to the lineup from their midweek defeat in Munich, and Arsenal initially struggled to find their rhythm against a determined Wolves side.

Despite facing their worst injury crisis under manager Gary O’Neil, the hosts nearly took the lead when David Raya was forced to make a crucial save to deny Joao Gomes.

Arsenal, despite dominating possession, had few clear chances in the first half. However, they were fortunate to break the deadlock just before halftime when Trossard’s shot deflected off the post and into the net.

The second half saw little goalmouth action as fatigue set in for Arsenal, playing their fourth match in 11 days. Without key attackers Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto, Wolves struggled to threaten Arsenal’s lead.

Odegaard sealed the victory deep into stoppage time with a clever finish past Jose Sa at the near post.

With Liverpool set to play Fulham on Sunday, Arsenal’s lead at the top remains precarious. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Luton Town’s survival hopes suffered a severe blow as Brentford secured a convincing 5-1 win at Kenilworth Road, pushing Luton further into the relegation zone.
