Arsenal’s pursuit of the title this season faced a setback as West Ham secured a 2-0 victory over the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in Thursday night’s English Premier League clash.
Despite drawing against Liverpool at Anfield in their previous match, many anticipated Arsenal’s ascent to the top of the table into the New Year with a home win against West Ham.
However, the Gunners experienced another disappointing performance, with David Moyes’s team claiming all three points and climbing into the top six.
Tomas Soucek gave the Hammers the lead in the 13th minute, with a VAR check allowing the goal despite the ball seemingly going out of play, leaving Arsenal trailing at halftime.

In the second half, Arsenal pressed hard for an equalizer, but West Ham remained resilient. In the 55th minute, former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home a corner kick, extending the Hammers’ lead.
Arsenal struggled to regain possession and mount a comeback, but West Ham tactically secured their victory, propelling them to sixth place in the EPL standings.
Following Thursday night’s defeat, Arsenal now trail Liverpool by two points, accumulating 40 points in 19 games this season.
