Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has announced her departure from Barcelona Femení after five successful seasons with the Spanish club.
The 29-year-old posted a heartfelt message on her Instagram account, thanking the club, her teammates, the staff and the fans for their support and love.
Oshoala expressed her mixed emotions as she bid farewell to the club that she joined in 2019 and where she made history as the first African woman to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Primera División and the Pichichi Trophy.
She said it was an honor and a privilege to wear the Barcelona jersey and represent the prestigious club, where she was part of some of the most memorable moments in the club’s history.
She also said that she will cherish the relationships she built with her family at Barcelona and that the club will always hold a special place in her heart.
She did not reveal her next destination, but said she will embark on a new journey and carry with her the memories, lessons and friendships that she gained during her time at Barcelona.
She ended her message with love and gratitude, saying that Barcelona gave her more than she could have ever imagined and that she will always be a proud representative of the club.
Oshoala is widely regarded as one of the greatest African female footballers of all time and one of the best in the world. She has won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award a record six times and was nominated for the Ballon d’Or in 2022.

She has also been a key player for the Nigeria women’s national team, scoring in three different World Cup tournaments and winning four African Women’s Championship titles.
She is popularly called “Àgba Baller”, which means in her local parlance, “Legendary Footballer”.
Her fans and admirers have reacted to her farewell message with messages of appreciation, admiration and best wishes for her future endeavors.
