ASUU Laments Eight Months Withheld Salaries, Says Members Frustrated

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called upon the federal government to promptly release the eight months’ salary owed to its members.

Expressing deep concern, Eze highlighted that ASUU members are grappling with frustration and struggling to maintain effective performance amidst the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

This plea was articulated by Eze during the ASUU congress convened on Thursday at the University of Nigeria campus.

“ASUU members are frustrated because of the eight months withheld salaries, coupled with the increase in the exchange rate, except the eight months salaries are paid, ASUU members won’t perform effectively.

“The government should release the money to ensure and sustain peace and harmony in the academic system”, Eze said.

He urged his colleagues to remain patient as progress is made in reviewing the university’s yellow book, the guideline for promotion.

He emphasized that ASUU is committed to achieving its goals through dialogue and peaceful means.

Professor Sule-kano Abdullahi, an ASUU Trustee and Chairman of the National Visitation Panel of the Union, stated that his team visited UNN to engage with union members regarding their challenges, intending to relay them to the national office.
