The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has thrown its weight behind the nationwide strike initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke issued a directive to all members to actively participate in the strike to safeguard the interests of Nigerian workers. This development follows the NLC and TUC’s call for a nationwide strike in response to the alleged assault on NLC president, Joe Ajaero, by the Nigerian police and Imo State government.
The organised labour has emphasized that the strike will persist until governmental authorities fulfill their responsibilities. In a joint letter, the NLC and TUC instructed affiliates, including ASUU, to ensure maximum compliance. The circulars detailing strike participation guidelines are to be disseminated promptly.
