Atiku Calls for Economic Reforms and National Planning in 2024

In his New Year message for 2024, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar called on the Federal Government to take action to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.

Atiku released his statement on Sunday, expressing “adulation to God and a heart full of gratitude” as the country welcomed the new year. He recognized that 2023 had been a year of significant challenges, but also one that provided important lessons for the future.

Atiku pointed out the increasing prices of food, goods, and services, the failing national economy, and the deteriorating state of national and community security as critical issues that need to be addressed head-on in the coming year.

He expressed his criticism of the government’s “policy prescriptions,” stating that many families and businesses are already feeling the strain of the current difficult times. He suggested that a different approach could have been taken if the government had been more astute.

Atiku advocated for a “well-thought vision of National Planning” that would intentionally place the common people of Nigeria at the heart of the country’s development.

He emphasized that 2024 is still in its early stages, providing the current government with ample opportunity to pave the way to alleviate the severe hardship Nigerians are experiencing.

Finally, he urged the government to provide a clear direction for its policy projections and to stop the current practice of “groping in the dark.”.
