In a display of selective condemnation, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 Presidential candidate, has refrained from addressing the recent massacre in Plateau State attributed to Fulani terrorists.
A series of armed attacks between December 23 and 25, 2023, resulted in over 300 deaths and injuries to more than 500 people across 17 rural communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas.
While the Plateau massacre, attributed to Fulani terrorists, shocked the nation, Atiku chose not to address the brutal incident. Instead, he focused his condemnation on the killing of Naheeba Al-Kadriyar by kidnappers. This act of violence occurred when Naheeba, along with her family, was abducted from their residence in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory on January 2, culminating in her tragic murder.
Expressing his sorrow on social media, Atiku remarked, “This is yet another reminder that kidnappers and bandits are operating unhindered in our country. The security architecture needs to be rejigged to guarantee the safety of lives and property.”
The apparent omission of any statement from Atiku regarding the Plateau massacre has raised questions about the consistency of his stance on condemning violence, drawing attention to what some perceive as a selective approach in addressing atrocities within the country.
