He made this call in Abuja on Tuesday while hosting the national executive committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), led by its national president, Yabagi Sani.

Concerned about the APC’s growing power, Abubakar issued a warning that it would turn Nigeria into a one-party dictatorship.

In order to preserve the nation’s democracy for upcoming generations, he underlined the necessity for opposition parties to band together and confront the ruling party.

The former vice president, who is also the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election, cautioned against the risk of Nigeria becoming a one-party state.

He stressed that the responsibility of protecting democracy in the country is not about one person but requires collective effort.

According to a statement by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Abubakar further urged the leadership of IPAC to encourage opposition political parties to unite and form a stronger front to prevent Nigeria’s democracy from sliding into a one-party state.

Abubakar also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as the worst general election in the country. He accused INEC of disregarding democratic tenets and delivering the ruling party at all costs.

This call for unity among opposition parties underscores the growing concern about the state of democracy in Nigeria and the need for a strong and united opposition to challenge the ruling party.
