Auto Crash Claims 16 Lives on Kano-Kaduna Expressway, FRSC Attributes Tragedy to Over-Speeding

In a tragic incident on the Kano-Kaduna expressway, a fatal auto crash claimed the lives of 16 individuals, leaving four others injured.

The accident, involving a Toyota bus with registration number TRB 674ZG, occurred at Taban Sani Junction, Tashar Yari.

According to Mr. Kabir Nadabo, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding, resulting in the bus plunging into a ditch.

Nadabo stated, “The tragic road traffic crash involved a Toyota bus, with registration number TRB 674ZG, travelling from Kano State to Makurdi, Benue State.”

He explained that the accident was caused by over-speeding, as the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged into a ditch.

“The rescue team of RS1.111. of Tashar Yari responded promptly and conducted the Rescue.”

He revealed that investigation into the crash revealed that of the 20 people involved, four were injured, “but sadly, 16 people lost their lives”.

Nadabo emphasised that Kaduna State is a crucial transportation corridor, and as a proactive measure, the state Command has implemented safety protocols to guide transporters, stressing the importance of safe travels.

He called on all stakeholders, especially transport unions, to actively promote and advocate safety measures to their drivers.

Furthermore, the FRSC is collaborating with media outlets to raise awareness about the dangers of dangerous driving practices, including over-speeding, overloading, driving with worn-out tires, and the risks associated with driver fatigue caused by extended journeys.
