The announcement was made by ECOWAS Commission President, Omar Touray, revealing that Koroma’s move is part of an agreement reached during a high-level delegation mission to Freetown.

The failed coup, which saw armed attackers storm military facilities and police stations, resulting in 21 casualties and numerous prison escapes, raised concerns of instability in West Africa. Sierra Leone, responding decisively, charged 12 individuals, including a former soldier and Koroma’s ex-bodyguard, Amadu Koita, with treason.

President Touray disclosed, “The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has offered to host His Excellency Ernest Bal Horoma in Abuja on a temporary basis.” Koroma, accepting the offer, is expected to depart Freetown on Thursday, January 4, 2024, accompanied by his office manager and personal assistant.

The statement further outlined conditions for Koroma’s departure, including the discontinuation of legal proceedings against him, the continued disbursement of his benefits, and the securing of his residences in Sierra Leone. The government also considers refunding his incurred medical and travel expenses. #Nigeria
