Tension As Bandits Attack Sokoto Community

Sokoto

In a harrowing turn of events, Gidan Marayu near the Dundaye community in Sokoto, on Thursday, was in a state of unrest following a terrorist invasion in the area.

Reports from SaharaReporters indicate that sporadic gunshots rocked the community, plunging residents into a state of panic.

A resident, recounting the terrifying experience, shared that the gunfire commenced around 12 am, lasting for about an hour.

The chaotic situation left many residents fearing abduction by the assailants. “It was from sleep I woke up; everybody was running helter-skelter, we didn’t know whether to stay in our rooms or run outside. This thing is becoming more and more scary,” expressed the resident.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State Command Spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, proved futile at the time of reporting.

As at press time, the newspaper could not independently verify whether abductions or casualties occurred during the invasion.

In a related incident, just last week, the police confirmed the killing of an individual as youths in the Kwakwala community, a mere 15-minute drive from Gidan Marayu, resisted terrorists attempting to attack their locality.

Ahmad Rufai detailed the confrontation, stating, “The suspected bandits numbering about 10, armed with cutlass and Dane guns, attacked a community behind the main campus of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto.”

He continued, “The youths of the area resisted the attacks, and in the process, the armed bandits shot one of the youths named Usman, who died instantly.

Four other youths of the Kwakwala and Dundaye communities also sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack.”

The region remains on edge as authorities work to address the escalating security challenges faced by these communities.
