Armed bandits wreaked havoc in Zurmi town, the Headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State, abducting at least 10 individuals, among them a nursing mother with her newborn.
The invaders unleashed chaos, firing indiscriminately and sending residents scrambling for safety.
Eye-witness Abubakar Zurmi recounted the nightmarish events, stating, “The terrorists in their large numbers entered the town around 5:30 pm from different points and started shooting at residents. The military actually tried their best to repel the attack. One soldier was injured during the shootout.”
The confrontation unfolded in a prolonged gun battle as troops from Operation Hadarin Daji confronted the assailants, but the bandits proved formidable adversaries.
Zurmi emphasized the severity of the situation, revealing, “Up till now about 10 persons are missing, which we believe to have been kidnapped, including a nursing mother who just gave birth about a week ago.” The fate of the abducted individuals hangs in the balance as the community anxiously awaits updates.
