‘Stop Talking, Start Acting’ — Barrister Darlington Fires at Defence Minister Musa Over Worsen Insecurity

Prominent Nigerian political analyst and legal practitioner Barrister Darlington Agomuo has launched a scathing public criticism of the country’s top military leadership, accusing the Chief of Defence Staff (now Minister of Defence) General Christopher Musa (rtd) of excessive rhetoric and negligible concrete action against terrorism sponsors.

In a widely circulated television appearance clip shared on social media, Barrister Darlington declared:

“The Nigerian Army has failed the country. Musa, you talk too much with little action.

Stop talking about insecurity and start going after the terrorists.

What have you done with the 400+ names given to you by foreign intelligence of those sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria? You know these people, yet you do nothing.”

The outburst, which has rapidly gained traction online with hundreds of likes, reposts, and quotes within hours, taps into long-standing public frustration over persistent insecurity in northern Nigeria, including Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, and mass kidnappings.

The reference to a supposed list of over 400 terrorism sponsors traces back to recurring claims in Nigerian security discourse.

Reports dating to around 2021–2022 indicate that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) shared intelligence with Nigerian authorities identifying individuals allegedly financing Boko Haram and related groups.

Public accounts at the time highlighted six Nigerians convicted in Abu Dhabi for channeling funds (approximately $782,000) to the terrorist organization, leading to speculation of a broader list handed over to Abuja.

Subsequent years saw periodic promises from Nigerian officials about exposing and prosecuting sponsors.

In mid-2025, then-CDS General Musa appeared on national television stating that processes were ongoing to name financiers, involving collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA), while citing legal and international complexities as reasons for delays.

More recent statements from Musa as Defence Minister have included stern warnings to sponsors and collaborators, emphasizing that security forces are empowered to act decisively.

Despite these assurances, critics—including Barrister Darlington—point to the absence of high-profile prosecutions or public disclosure of names as evidence of inertia or possible protection of influential figures.

Public discourse frequently alleges that some sponsors may include politically connected individuals, business elites, or even elements within security circles, contributing to perceptions of systemic impunity.

Barrister Darlington, a regular commentator on Voice of the People Television (VOPTV) known for his forthright takes on governance, insecurity, and political developments, framed the issue as a fundamental failure of leadership.

His remarks come amid renewed kidnappings and attacks in the northwest and north-central regions, fueling demands for more aggressive kinetic operations and financial disruption of terror networks.

The viral clip has reignited online debate, with many users echoing calls for the list’s release and prosecutions, while others defend the military’s efforts amid complex operational challenges.

As of January 13, 2026, no official response from the Ministry of Defence or General Musa had been issued regarding the specific accusations.

The incident underscores the deepening public disillusionment with Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy more than a decade after the escalation of Boko Haram violence, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
