Misplaced Priority: Bauchi Governor Advocates for Review on Police Dress Code to Boost Northern Women’s Participation

Despite insecurity and hardship in the country, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed, has called upon the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to reconsider its dress code in a bid to encourage greater involvement of women, particularly from Northern regions.

Governor Mohammed emphasized the need for a revamped dress code during a meeting with Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), at the Government House in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Governor Mohammed highlighted that the current dress code fails to adequately motivate women from Northern states to join the police force, citing socio-cultural and religious differences as contributing factors.

However, he commended Elizabeth Egbetokun for her efforts in introducing commendable initiatives aimed at empowering women across various sectors of society.

During the meeting, Egbetokun said that she was in the state to inform the governor of the newly introduced programme, Initiative of Young Women in Agriculture under the Police Agricultural Empowerment programme.

She encouraged women in Bauchi State to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance the economic status of their families through active participation in the program.

Elizabeth Egbetokun also praised Governor Bala Mohammed for his notable achievements in the fields of education, health, and agriculture.
