Bauchi Lawmaker Narrowly Escapes Attack by Angry Youths Who Threw Stones and Sand, Accusing Him of Poor Representation

Adamu Hashimu Ranga, the member representing Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency of Bauchi State in the House of Representatives, narrowly avoided being mobbed by angry youths on Sunday.

The incident occurred during the burial of the late Emir of Ningi, Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, in Ningi.

Ranga, who was elected in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faced backlash from youths of his constituency who accused him of neglecting them since his election and subsequent relocation to Abuja.

The youths expressed their frustration by chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” (We don’t want you) and threw sand and stones at his convoy as he was leaving the Emir’s palace around 5:42 pm.

The situation worsened as the youths continued their attack, resulting in significant damage to Ranga’s vehicle, including shattered windows, windscreen, and rear mirrors.

Security operatives intervened to safely escort the lawmaker from the scene.

An eyewitness, in a phone interview with DAILY POST, described the incident as unfortunate.

He said, “I came out of the palace deeply saddened by the Emir’s demise, only to see youths throwing sand and stones at a car. When I moved closer, I realised it was our representative being attacked.”

He added that the youths had mobilised upon seeing the lawmaker, positioning themselves near his car and starting the attack as soon as he was leaving the palace.

Previously, Ranga’s constituents had attempted to recall him from the National Assembly, but this effort was halted following intervention by the late Emir and other figures.
