The Bayelsa State Police Command has announced the arrest of one of the alleged murderers of SP Bako Angbashim, who was the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division in Rivers State.
According to the police spokesperson in Bayelsa, CSP Asinim Butswat, the suspect is Onyekachi Ikowa, a 43-year-old man who is the deputy to TuBaba, the notorious leader of the “Icelander” cult group in Rivers State. Ikowa was apprehended on November 18 in Yenagoa, where he was hiding after the brutal killing of SP Angbashim in September.
Butswat said that the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Mr Francis Iduh, had ordered the arrest of Ikowa following an intelligence report. He added that the suspect has been transferred to the Rivers State Police Command for further investigation.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters had earlier reported that three traditional rulers in Rivers State have been remanded in prison custody by Justice Sika Henry Apirioku of the Rivers State High Court over their alleged involvement in the assassination of the former DPO of Ahoada East.
The affected monarchs are Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, the king of Igbu Akoh Kingdom; Eze Kilvine N. Amugwo and Dr Felix E. Otuwarikpo, along with other defendants. They were arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday in the case number PHC/3208/CR/2023, on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, cultism, and kidnapping among others.
