US President Joe Biden is set to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour in the United States, to 19 individuals on Saturday.
The award recognises significant contributions in various fields, including entertainment, sports, politics, and humanitarian efforts.
This year’s honourees include football icon Lionel Messi, actor Denzel Washington, singer and activist Bono, basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and actor Michael J. Fox.
Fashion industry stalwarts Anna Wintour and Ralph Lauren, along with chef José Andrés, founder of the World Central Kitchen NGO, and renowned primate researcher and environmentalist Jane Goodall, are also among those to be recognised.
Notable political and philanthropic figures, including billionaire financier George Soros and former First Lady and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will receive the prestigious honour as well.

In a statement, the White House described the recipients as “great leaders who are good people, making extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.”
