Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as OdumoduBlvck, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks comparing the experiences of Black people in Africa and the United States.
Speaking on the BET Talks podcast titled “OdumoduBlvck On Industry Machine, Being a One-Woman Man & Staying Rooted in Faith,” the Blood on the Dance Floor crooner reflected on race, forgiveness, and the challenges of Black identity both in Africa and abroad.

OdumoduBlvck urged Black Americans to rise above victimhood and embrace the opportunities available to them, adding that forgiveness and understanding were key to healing.
America is now a better place for Black people. You’ve been given the wings to fly, move forward and forgive, because some acted out of their circumstances,”he said.
The rapper went on to make a bold comparison between the experiences of Black people on both continents.
“Because I’m in Nigeria, and I’m telling you that the things that Black people have suffered in America are not compared to the things that Black people have suffered in the hands of Black people in Africa”

OdumoduBlvck’s statement sparked immediate debate across social media platforms, with users divided on whether his comparison was valid.
One user, @OB1NNA_1x1, wrote: He may be telling the truth but I will not speak on a struggle I have not experienced personally. Let Black people in America tell themselves how to live there and let us do the same for ourselves here.”
Another, @El_saba01, echoed a similar sentiment: “You can speak on the struggles of Nigerians because you have lived and experienced it first hand all your lives. But don’t speak on the struggles of Black Americans that you have never experienced.”
While some supported his call for self-reflection within Africa, others accused him of oversimplifying centuries of systemic oppression faced by Black Americans.
