President Joe Biden of the United States has drawn attention to the alarming racial disparities in maternal health, emphasizing the heightened risk faced by Black women in America during pregnancy.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, Biden underscored the urgency of addressing these issues, particularly during Black Maternal Health Week.
Biden revealed that Black women in the United States are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications compared to their white counterparts.
Biden reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling the longstanding disparities faced by Black communities across the country.
He emphasized the administration’s use of federal resources and initiatives to address these issues head-on, recognizing the critical importance of improving the health and well-being of Black mothers.
Biden stated, “Black women in America are 3x as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women, making Black Maternal Health Week an urgent call for action.”

“That’s why we’re using the power of the federal government to address the long-standing disparities that Black communities continue to face—disparities that directly impact the health and well-being of Black mothers,” he added.
