Fresh Attack: Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists Kill 20 in Niger Community

No fewer than 20 people were reportedly killed by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect at Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State on Friday.

Out of the 20 deceased, 10 youths were purportedly slaughtered and their heads handed over to members of the community while the gunmen videoed them holding the heads.

It was also learned that those who were killed were young men between the ages of 20 and 35 who lived in the community.

According to The Nation’s report, the terrorists, who were numbered over 50, were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons and operated freely during the attack, which occurred between 3 pm to 7 pm. 

“They told us that anybody who refused to be recruited into their fold would be given similar treatment. They said they used the ten beheaded youths as an example. These people belong to Boko Haram.

“They told us that we brought it upon ourselves as they had warned us to leave the community for them, but we refused. We were told that either our children join them or we vacate the community,” a source said.

The state government or the state police command have not said anything about the incident.
