Former President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the recent killings by Boko Haram in Yobe highlight the need for communities to intensify their efforts in overcoming terrorism and insecurity in the country.
The former president said this on Wednesday in a condolence message issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.
The former president decried the recent terrorist attack on Yobe that led to the loss of several lives, saying that the latest incident was a “dreadful reminder that communities supported by governments have more work to do in curbing the menace of the terrorists.”
Mr Buhari prayed for the repose of those killed and called “for strict response to those who commit these monstrous acts.”
Dozens of people were killed on Sunday when Boko Haram attacked Mafa village in Yobe State.
In response, the Yobe government announced on Tuesday a donation of N30 million to support the families of the victims killed in the attack by Boko Haram.
The Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana, made this announcement while leading a delegation to Babangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa, for the funeral of those killed in the attack.
He expressed his condolences to the Emir of Jajere, Mai Buba Mashio, and the community.
Mr. Gubana also instructed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide food and shelter for the displaced persons who lost all their belongings in the attack.
