Border Crisis Escalates as Hezbollah Destroys Israeli Security Cameras

Hezbollah, a militant organisation in Lebanon, stated on Monday that it has started destroying security cameras on multiple Israeli army checkpoints, escalating tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

In a video they published, snipers can be seen shooting at and taking out security cameras installed at five different locations along the Israel-Lebanon border, including one just outside the Israeli town of Metula. This appears to be an attempt to stop the Israeli army from keeping an eye on border crossings on the Lebanese side.

Catherine Colonna, the foreign minister of France, arrived in Beirut to meet with officials and talk about the border tensions. Najib Mikati, the caretaker prime minister of Lebanon, said that the country’s politically paralysed administration has been attempting to defuse tensions along its southern border with Israel in order to prevent entangling the small nation in another conflict.

All eyes are on these border tensions and their possible ramifications for regional stability as alarm about this deteriorating scenario rises on a global scale.
