Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has asked residents to observe a statewide fast and prayer on Monday in response to renewed activities linked to Boko Haram.
He announced the decision in a broadcast where he described the spiritual action as necessary to reinforce ongoing security measures across the state.
The governor said, “As a people of faith, we believe our security strategies must be underpinned by prayer. I hereby declare Monday, 24th November, 2025, as a Statewide Day of Fasting and Prayer for the restoration of peace in Borno State and the country.”
He noted that similar spiritual exercises had been held in previous years whenever threats escalated or attacks became frequent.

Zulum called on both Christians and Muslims in the state to join the exercise, emphasising unity of purpose and collective responsibility.
He said, “On this day, I call upon every resident of Borno, regardless of faith, to join in prayer for the lasting peace and prosperity of our beloved state and Nigeria.”
He added, “Consequently, let us therefore devote ourselves to constant prayers, seeking Almighty God’s mercy.”
He urged citizens to pray for safety and protection.
He said, “I also urge the people to use this period to pray for divine protection against evildoers, saboteurs, and all enemies of peace.”
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue funding and supporting the security forces battling insurgents across the state.
He explained that community vigilance groups and volunteers would also receive sustained backing as part of a broader stabilisation plan.
Zulum stressed the importance of dialogue where possible but said no discussions would compromise the state’s integrity or the safety of residents.
He reflected on the scale of destruction recorded since the insurgency started fifteen years ago, noting how every part of Borno had felt its impact.

He said millions were displaced at the peak of the crisis and that social and economic life had been severely disrupted across the twenty-seven local government areas.
The governor praised citizens for the resilience they had shown through years of hardship and uncertainty.
He said the unity demonstrated during the worst moments of the insurgency contributed greatly to the stability the state later achieved.
He highlighted improved security that allowed farmers to cultivate their fields this year without major interruption.
Zulum said the government would keep providing inputs and fertiliser so that communities could farm throughout the year.
He acknowledged that sporadic attacks were still being recorded but said the overall situation had become more manageable.
He expressed worry about recent developments within the state and globally, describing them as reasons for intensified vigilance.
He thanked residents for consistently supporting frontline soldiers, the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters and other volunteers.
He said, “Let me commend the people of Borno State for their steadfastness and commitment to the cause of peace. This has been demonstrated through relentless prayers, fasting, and continued support for our gallant troops on the frontline, the Civilian JTF, hunters, and vigilantes. Indeed, your resilience has been a source of inspiration and strength to me and to the entire administration.”
