In a commendable display of vigilance and prompt action, the Borno State Police Command averted a potential disaster by neutralizing an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered at the University of Maiduguri’s main entrance on Monday.

ASP Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the police command, verified the events of the previous day in a statement released in Maiduguri on Tuesday. He detailed that the suspicious device was detected around 9:00 a.m. on Monday, prompting immediate deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the location.

The EOD team, demonstrating rapid and efficient response, managed to disarm the IED, ensuring no casualties or damage occurred. Following the successful diffusion, the police conducted a thorough sweep of the vicinity to confirm its safety.

ASP Daso further mentioned that an investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for the IED placement and to understand their underlying intentions.

In light of the incident, the police spokesman has called upon the residents of Borno to remain vigilant and to report any unusual objects or individuals to the nearest security agency, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding lives and property.
