A Brazilian high court has affirmed that Robinho, a former Manchester City player, must face a nine-year prison term in Brazil for his involvement in a sexual assault case in Italy back in 2013.

He, along with five others, was found guilty of assaulting a woman in a Milan nightclub and received a nine-year sentence.

Despite his insistence on innocence and his unsuccessful attempts to appeal the conviction twice, he now faces serving his sentence in Brazil due to the country’s policy of not extraditing its citizens, coupled with his residency there.

This recent decision from Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice, with a 9-2 vote, solidifies the validity of his conviction, meaning he will serve his sentence in his home country.

While this marks a significant legal development, Robinho still retains the option to appeal the decision to Brazil’s Supreme Court.
