BREAKING: Germany Begins Deportation of Nigerians from Munich Today

Germany Begins Deportation

A group of Nigerian immigrants will be deported from Germany on a charter flight today, according to a channel that monitors deportations.

The “Deportation Alarm” channel, run by the “No Border Assembly”, a group that opposes deportations, posted a message on it’s blog on Monday, saying:

“Tomorrow: #CharterDeportation to Nigeria

  • Tuesday, 7 November at 06:00
  • Munich (MUC) → Lagos (LOS)”

The channel also urged people to protest against the deportation at Munich Airport and to show solidarity with the deportees.

The number of Nigerians on the flight is not known, but the channel claimed that there were “many” of them.

This is not the first time that Germany has deported Nigerian immigrants whose asylum applications have been rejected. The most recent large-scale deportation took place on March 15, 2022, when 34 Nigerians were deported on a charter flight. This was the first deportation carried out onboard a charter flight that year.

In 2020, the German government announced plans to deport more Nigerians, stating that there were about 12,000 Nigerians in the country whose asylum applications had been rejected. However, there have been no recent reports confirming the deportation of 14,000 Nigerians from Germany.

The deportation comes shortly after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Nigeria on October 29–30, 2023.

The visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria. During his visit, Chancellor Scholz met with Bola Ahmed Tinubu and opened a Nigeria-German Business Conference.

He also interacted with representatives of Nigerian Civil Society and Nigerian start-up entrepreneurs.

The Nigerian government has not commented on the deportation issue but has expressed its willingness to cooperate with Germany on various areas of mutual interest, such as trade, investment, security, and education.
