On Monday, a boat carrying over 50 passengers sank in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing at least 30 people.
Bala Yauri, Chairman of Yauri LGA, confirmed the terrible occurrence to Voice of America over the phone, saying the act has left the residents of the local government in deep sadness.
Local divers are working hard to find the bodies of the people who drowned in the river, he said.
“According to the information I have, more than fifty people were involved in the accident, and while some of them escaped, over thirty of them are still trapped in the river as of now.” Yauri Confirmed.
