Former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo has been sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison for accepting $35 million in bribes from Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.
The bribes were paid in exchange for securing a contract to build a road linking Peru to western Brazil.
Toledo, who governed Peru from 2001 to 2006, was arrested in California in 2019 and extradited to Peru earlier this year.
