Old social media posts by staunch All Progressive Congress (APC) and Muhammadu Buhari supporter Sarki (@waspapping) have resurfaced online, showing scathing remarks he once made about the former president’s time in office.
The tweets, which have gone viral again following Buhari’s death, are being cited as yet another example of the deep national disappointment many Nigerians felt toward the former leader, even from his own cheerleaders.
“I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive former President Muhammad Buhari,” Sarki tweeted on October 4, 2023. In another post dated May 30, 2023, he wrote, “Personally, I won’t forgive and I won’t forget all that happened under President Buhari’s 8-year watch. He failed woefully, and that’s the fact, no matter what they want you to believe.”
The resurfacing of these tweets comes at a time when sections of the political establishment are attempting to revise Buhari’s legacy, portraying him as a patriot and statesman. But for critics, including many former supporters, the wounds of Buhari’s rule remain fresh.
Sarki’s sudden change of tone during Buhari’s final months in office mirrors a growing trend among once-loyal voices who turned against the administration as hardship, insecurity, and failed promises deepened.
His statements are now fueling a renewed online conversation about hypocrisy and shifting loyalty among Buhari-era influencers and propagandists.
The tweets were re-shared Tuesday by user Stanley the Stallion (@Eloka208784), a self-described “Obidient Mobster,” with the caption reminding Nigerians of the hypocrisy of those who once supported Buhari but now attempt to wash their hands clean.
While Buhari’s allies continue to push glowing tributes in the wake of his death, reactions like Sarki’s throw a harsh spotlight on the disillusionment that trailed the former military ruler’s eight years in office.
