An elderly woman lost her life in a partial building collapse on Oloto Street by Borno Way, off Freeman Street, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.
He stated that the agency responded to distress calls from the public and discovered a two-story building in a state of partial collapse upon arrival at the scene.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, an internally suspended beam in a room collapsed due to aging and a lack of maintenance on the structure.
The impact of the partial collapse unfortunately claimed the life of the elderly woman.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with officials from the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Paramedics, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and LASAMBUS in attendance.
The building has been cordoned off, and officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABCA) have been contacted.
This tragic incident underscores the importance of regular maintenance and inspection of buildings to ensure their structural integrity and safety.
