Nigerian music sensations Burna Boy and Rema achieved a historic milestone at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, clinching top honors as the inaugural winners in the Afrobeats category.

The ceremony unfolded at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Sunday.

Burna Boy secured the ‘Top Afrobeats Artiste’ award, surpassing competition from fellow Nigerians Wizkid and Tems.

Expressing gratitude, Burna Boy dedicated the award to African artists, emphasizing that the recognition is merely the “tip of the iceberg”.

“This is dedicated to Africa and every artiste coming out of Africa, this is for you and yeah man the future is bright,” he stated.

“You guys are going to see the vision. This is just the tip of the iceberg, you are going to see the whole vision soon. Salute! Love.”

Rema also made waves by claiming the ‘Top Afrobeats Song’ award for his global hit ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez.

Notably, Morgan Wallen emerged as the night’s most decorated artist with 11 awards, while Taylor Swift solidified her position as the leading female winner with 10 accolades.
