Nigerian Grammy Award-winning artiste Burna Boy has addressed the controversy surrounding his confrontation with a fan who jumped on stage during his performance at the Greater Lagos 2024 concert.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the singer attributed his reaction to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and emphasised his long-standing rule against fans intruding on stage while he performs.
“Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy new year,” Burna Boy wrote.
The incident, captured in a viral video, drew criticism from many Nigerians, with some labeling Burna Boy’s response as “brutal.”
However, others defended the artiste, citing safety concerns and the unpredictability of the fan’s intentions.

Burna Boy also clarified his decision to end his performance abruptly, noting that it was a free show where he was initially slated to perform for 10 minutes but extended his set to nearly an hour.
“I was supposed to do 10 mins and did almost an hour,” he stated in response to critics of his early exit.
