Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, has called upon the media to refrain from labelling Daniel Bwala as his former aide.

Bwala previously served as Atiku’s campaign spokesperson for the 2023 presidential election.

However, Atiku has clarified that Bwala is no longer associated with him and urged the public to recognize Bwala based on his current endeavours and affiliations.

During the election campaign, Bwala parted ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to the party’s decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He then aligned himself with Atiku in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was swiftly enlisted in the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization.

As a spokesperson for the PDP presidential candidate, Bwala criticized the APC’s choice of presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Following Atiku’s loss to Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC, Bwala shifted his allegiance to the ruling party.

In January, Bwala paid two visits to Tinubu, stating during his initial visit that he owed no one an apology for meeting with the president.

Bwala shared a photograph of himself and Tinubu in Paris, saying the president shared “his thoughts (with him) and demonstrated his passion to lead Nigeria out of the woods.”

During his visit to the president, Bwala asserted that Atiku was informed about one of his visits to the president.

He said, “I informed Atiku Abubakar I was going to see the President. After I had seen the president, I informed him (Atiku) that I had just seen the president, and he replied, ‘Thanks Daniel for notifying me.”

In a statement released by his media office on Tuesday, Atiku declared that Bwala ought not to be referred to as his former aide anymore.

Atiku clarified that Bwala’s role as a campaign spokesperson concluded with the election, emphasizing that Bwala has since transitioned to other endeavours.

“Bwala offered his services and support to the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization as a spokesperson, and it was a position he held during the last presidential campaign.”

“Subsequently, and after the election, the need for a campaign spokesperson has terminated, and Bwala has moved on with his career.

“This, therefore, serves as notice to the media and the interested public to desist from defining Bwala as an ex-aide of Atiku Abubakar,” the statement reads in part.

The ex-vice president also encouraged the public to acknowledge, introduce, and identify Bwala based on his present occupation and affiliations.
