Peter Obi , the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate has congratulated Nigerian football stars Ademola Lookman, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and the Super Falcons for their outstanding victories at the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.
In a statement on his social media handle, Obi lauded their achievements as a source of pride and inspiration for the nation, describing them as having “written their names in gold.”
Ademola Lookman, Super Eagles forward, was crowned the African Footballer of the Year, while Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Super Falcons goalkeeper, retained her title as Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Additionally, the Super Falcons secured the Women’s National Team of the Year award, cementing Nigeria’s dominance in African football.
Obi expressed gratitude for their hard work, skills, and excellence, which he said brought honor to the country.

Highlighting the importance of sports, Obi noted that it has been a unifying force in Nigeria and a significant means of job creation for the nation’s youth.
He stressed that moments of victory like this underline the potential of sports to inspire national pride and unity. “Sports has not only been a strong unifying factor for us in Nigeria but has proven to be a means of job creation for our talented youths,” he said.
Obi further called for greater investment in the sports sector, emphasizing its critical role for a youthful population like Nigeria’s.
He reiterated his vision for a “New Nigeria” where sectors like sports are given the attention they deserve to unlock the full potential of the country’s talent and resources. “A New Nigeria remains POssible!” he reiterated.
