In the face of Cameroon’s criminalization of LGBTQ relationships, Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s long-standing President Paul Biya, has ignited a firestorm of reactions in her home country by posting an image of herself kissing another woman on Instagram.

The post, which has garnered significant attention, features 26-year-old Biya embracing Brazilian model Layyons Valença.

“I’m crazy about you and I want the world to know,” Biya wrote, accompanying the caption with a love heart emoji.

Meanwhile in Cameroon, same-sex relationships are illegal, and those found engaging in such acts can face up to five years in prison.

Although Ms. Biya, a musician known by her stage name King Nasty and currently residing abroad, did not explicitly state her sexuality in the post, the image itself has been interpreted as a bold statement.
