Charly Boy Disagrees With Tinubu’s Statement, Condemns Administration for Extravagant Spending

Nigerian activist and public figure Charly Boy has publicly denounced Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s claim of inheriting a “dilapidated” Nigeria from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

In a detailed critique shared on his X handle, Charly Boy argues that President Tinubu’s administration has been marked by extravagant spending rather than the austerity one might expect from a leader who inherited a troubled economy.

He points to the allocation of 21 billion Naira for renovating the Vice President’s residence and 70 billion Naira designated for purchasing high-end SUVs for National Assembly members.

Similarly, he criticizes the 5 billion Naira spent on a Presidential Tax Reforms Committee led by Taiwo Oyedele, and another 1.5 billion Naira used to purchase cars for Oluremi Tinubu, despite the unrecognized status of the First Lady’s office in the constitution.

He further condemns the significant salary increases granted to senators and House of Representatives members, the hefty budget for a new Presidential fleet, and the questionable awarding of a 15 trillion Naira road contract to a Lebanese contractor. He also questions the rationale behind the creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development, suggesting that it contradicts previous recommendations for downsizing government agencies.

Charly Boy challenges the administration to account for the funds supposedly saved from the removal of fuel subsidies and electricity tariff hikes.

He emphasizes that despite these fiscal changes, the cost of governance has risen, while ordinary Nigerians continue to face economic hardships, including rising food and healthcare costs, increased insecurity, and widespread unemployment.

However, Charly Boy urges that this trend of perceived fiscal irresponsibility be addressed, accusing the administration of worsening inequality and enriching leaders at the expense of ordinary citizens. His remarks reflect growing frustration among Nigerians over the management of public funds and the effectiveness of the current government’s economic policies.
