The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has informed a U.S. federal court that a former Chicago mobster, Andrew Edwards, with connections to Bola Tinubu, has died.
The announcement was made on Wednesday as part of an update in an ongoing freedom of information lawsuit at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C.
The U.S. officials stated in a court document obtained by the People’s Gazette that “DEA has begun its search for responsive records pertaining to Mr. Edwards in light of receiving information that appears to confirm his death.”
The U.S. authorities, however, did not disclose when or how the mobster, referred to as Mr. Edwards, passed away. The news of his death may potentially impact the timeline of future disclosures in the ongoing case.
This development comes amidst the government’s attempts to withhold information regarding Tinubu’s alleged involvement in a large-scale drug operation in Chicago. Previously released documents revealed that both Mr. Edwards and Tinubu were key figures in a drug syndicate that operated in the northwestern U.S. during the 1980s, with investigators suspecting Tinubu as the leader of the group.
Despite these revelations, documents related to Tinubu remain concealed, leading to accusations of the FBI submitting inconsistent statements to the court. Aaron Greenspan, a public transparency activist, and Nigerian journalist David Hundeyin, who jointly filed the freedom of information suit, have accused the FBI of downplaying the extent of records relating to Tinubu in its possession.

Greenspan has urged the court to order the FBI to release the records promptly and comprehensively, including details of Tinubu’s role. He cited a public case file from Chicago detailing how President Tinubu forfeited over $460,000 in narcotics proceeds as evidence that the FBI’s files on Tinubu can no longer be kept hidden. #Chicago
