Convoy attack: It’s Not An Assassination Attempt, Yahaya Bello Clarifies

Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello has clarified the incident that was initially reported as an attempt at his life and was widely shared on social media.

According to him, the incident was actually a minor argument between some military personnel providing security on the road and the security details attached to him.

In a press interview on Sunday night at his Abuja residence, Governor Bello said there had never been any kind of attempt on his life.

He further clarified that although there had been a little altercation between members of his convoy’s Nigerian Police Force and a military unit guarding the highways, both units had been carrying out their official security responsibilities at the time.

However, he urged the high command of the agencies to look into any overzealous or unprofessional behavior by any of their men involved in the incident and impose the necessary sanctions.

The governor praised the security agencies for their joint contributions to the improved security of lives and property enjoyed by the citizens of Kogi.

As the November 11 governorship election in the state approaches, the governor urged the people of Kogi to disregard any attempt by political profiteers to use the incident to polarize the polity.

In order to guarantee that the elections are peaceful, free, and fair, Yahaya Bello reassured the state of both his safety and the sufficiency of security measures.
