Lagos High Court Adjourns Impeachment Suit of Ousted Speaker Obasa to March 7

The Lagos State High Court has adjourned the suit filed by the ousted Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his impeachment.

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro set March 7, 2025, as the date to hear multiple applications submitted by various counsels involved in the case.

Obasa was removed from office on January 13, 2025, over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.

His impeachment led to the election of Mojisola Meranda as the Speaker of the House.

The defendants in the suit include Speaker Meranda, 34 other lawmakers, and the House of Assembly itself.

There was a brief drama in court over legal representation for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Femi Falana (SAN) announced his appearance as counsel for the House, but another lawyer, Abang Mkpandiok, also claimed to represent the Assembly and requested a court order to formalise the change of counsel.

Justice Pinheiro ruled that all pending applications would be heard on March 7. The court also approved a request from some lawmakers to join the suit.
