Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has emerged victorious as the Supreme Court dismisses an appeal against his election. The appeal, initially brought forth by Mr. Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was withdrawn by his counsel, Sebastian Hon, on Monday.
Uba had contested the election results, challenging the victory of Governor Alia, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Abuja had previously upheld Alia’s election, affirming the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the March 18 governorship election.
The Supreme Court cited the nature of the case as a pre-election matter and declared a lack of jurisdiction to hear the petition. This decision marks a significant development in the legal proceedings surrounding the gubernatorial election in Benue State.
