In his ongoing civil fraud prosecution, former US president Donald Trump has been issued a fine of $10,000 for violating a gag order.
This is the second time in less than a week that Trump has faced consequences for remarks he made outside of court.
Judge Arthur Engoron decided that Trump had broken a limited gag order and levied the fine.
A violation occurred when Trump referred to “an individual with strong partisan leanings seated next to the judge.” Judge Engoron rejected Trump’s argument as “not credible,” despite the fact that he and his attorneys insisted the comment was directed at Michael Cohen, a former Trump lawyer who had been testifying, rather than the clerk.
This instance comes after another one in which Trump was fined $5,000 for using a social media post that disparaged the judge’s chief legal clerk.
The post was removed from Trump’s Truth social media platform, but it continued to appear on Trump’s campaign website for weeks.
