Court Declares Rivers N800bn 2024 Budget Illegal

The Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the N800 billion 2024 budget signed into law by Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara, illegal.

The ruling stems from the factionalized state House of Assembly, where a group of four lawmakers, loyal to the governor, passed the budget in December.

The court, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, held that all actions taken by the four lawmakers were null and void.

This decision comes amidst the ongoing power struggle within the Rivers Assembly, triggered by a move from 27 lawmakers aligned with ex-governor Nyesom Wike to impeach Governor Fubara.
